Search for escaped Hamilton inmate continues

- A search is underway for Percell R. Brinson that escaped from Hamilton Correctional Institution today around 12:20 p.m.
JASPER — A search continues for an inmate that escaped from Hamilton Correctional Institution Tuesday around 12:20 p.m.
Percell R. Brinson is a 25-year-old black male. He is 5-foot-6 and 192 pounds. He has multiple tattoos on his face, neck and arms.
According to a statement from the Florida Department of Corrections, Brinson left Hamilton Work Camp without authorization from staff. He was authorized to work outside of the secure perimeter when he left his work assignment.
Sheriff Harrell Reid said the inmate stole a vehicle after escaping and the vehicle was found in Columbia County.
Brinson is a minimum custody inmate and has no history of violent discipline while in the department’s custody.
Brinson is serving a five-year sentence for multiple charges including grand theft, burglary of a dwelling and grand theft with a firearm.
