MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Colquitt County man was shot in the leg late Tuesday night in the second robbery reported on Bert Horne Avenue in four days and the third in the county in the same time frame.

Police were dispatched at about 11 p.m. Tuesday to the 100 block of Bert Horne Avenue to a report of a shooting.

Jorge Solano, who lives in the area, was outside with Jose Luis Jimenez at the time of the incident, according to the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.

“(They) were approached by three young males wearing black masks and all black clothing,” sheriff’s Sgt. Austin Cannon said. “They were standing in an open area between the houses.”

The three robbers, all armed with pistols, demanded Solano and Jimenez’s wallets.

One of armed males pulled back the slide of the pistol to chamber a round and the gun jammed, Cannon said. At that time Solano hit one of the assailants and another of the men fired a round, striking Jimenez in the left thigh.

“After the shot was fired the offenders fled,” Cannon said. “The victims believe they were Hispanic.”

Jimenez was treated at an area hospital and released early Wednesday morning, Cannon said.

At 11:40 p.m. Saturday after a couple returned to their residence in the 100 block of Bert Horne Avenue two armed men approached the husband as he was unloading groceries from their minivan. They took an unknown amount of money and then went inside and demanded more money from the woman.

They ran when the wife told them that there was no more money inside the camper where they live.

Less than two hours six men in the 700 block of Jonah Tillman Road, who also had just returned home from grocery shopping, were confronted by five armed men.

Police believe several gunshots were fired into the air, and one of the robbers struck one of the six farm workers in the mouth, causing only a minor injury that did not require medical treatment.

The assailants robbed the men of their cash and cell phones.
