Missing mule crosses county line

THOMASVILLE — The mule that wandered into Thomas County from the Sand Hill region of adjacent Brooks County is extremely strong — and elusive.
“They were apparently out training horses on the farm where the mule is kept,” said Lt. Tim Watkins, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator. “The mule got out and is running around between Pavo and Coolidge.”
The animal is a cross between a Tennessee Walker and a tall jack.
Watkins wants residents to be on the lookout for the mule, which has been seen hanging around a horse.
“Apparently, the three-year-old mule thinks the horse is his mom,” the investigator said.
Tim Roberts, a Boston Police Department officer, roped the mule, which ran and wrapped the lasso around a tree and broke the rope. The mule can be roped but is strong and difficult to corral, Roberts said.
“A mule has extra strength,” he explained.
Last seen in the Enon Road-Airport Road area, the mule, wearing a halter and lead, has run into the road.
“If you see the mule, slow down, and let us know,” Watkins said.
Anyone seeing the mule is asked to call 225-3333.
