DAR awards scholarships

- John Benning Regent Nancy Coleman presented the DAR ROTC Award to Amber Moore and the DAR American History Award to Will Barber. Both awards included a certificate, bronze medal and scholarship.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — The John Benning Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) recently recognized two Colquitt County High School students for exceptional achievements. Both awards included a bronze medal and a certificate which were presented at the Colquitt County High School Honors Night program and a scholarship which was presented at the chapter’s annual meeting.
Amber Moore received the ROTC Award, which is presented to a student who has demonstrated academic excellence, dependability, good character, adherence to military discipline, leadership, and a fundamental and patriotic understanding of the importance of the Reserve Officer Training Corps. While at Colquitt County High School Moore won first place in Kiwanis Art Competition 2015; Best in Show Kiwanis Art Competition 2017; Honorable Mention 2017 Congressional Art Competition; and first place Georgia Farm Bureau Art Contest 2017. A Merit Graduate, she will be attending Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus and will be majoring in art.
Will Barber received the American History Award, which is presented to a graduating senior who has earned the highest average in American history. He is an Honor Graduate and was named one of the Ten Top in the Senior Class. In the fall he will be entering the Honors Program at the University of Georgia, considering a major in economics or history.
The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America’s future through better education for children.
