MOULTRIE, Ga. — Randall Lairsey sits on the bench at the veterans monument, outside the Colquitt County Courthouse Annex.

At 93, Lairsey may be the oldest veteran living in Colquitt County, his family said; certainly he is one of the oldest. He served in the infantry during World War II.

The monument was built in the early 2000s as a salute to veterans of all wars, but it features a World War II veteran in an American Legion cap holding a poppy, as well as a rendering of the book “The Greatest Generation” by Tom Brokaw.
