THOMASVILLE — Thomasville Police Department is on the lookout for drivers who are reckless behind the wheel.
“It’s that time of the year when more drivers will be on the road,” said Maj. Eric Hampton, TPD public information officer. “With summer approaching, there will be more young people driving on our streets. Our efforts will be to ensure that they remain safe, as well as other citizens who are driving on the street.”
Beginning today, police will step up vigilance for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“We see a lot of drivers who are not in compliance with the laws of the road,” Hampton said. “This includes suspended or revoked driver’s license, suspended registration, expired tags, no insurance and other violations.”
The officer said TPD’s goal is to ensure that people are in compliance with the law when they are operating vehicles.
Another area of concern is distracted driving by those who are texting or involved in other activities and take their eyes off the road.
“Accidents are the result of drivers being distracted. We encourage drivers to obey the laws and keep themselves, as well as other motorists, safe on the road,” Hampton said.
Residents are asked to call 911 to report reckless activity observed on city streets.
“Violators will be cited or arrested if they are caught violating these laws,” Hampton said. “Increased officer patrols will be on the lookout for reckless behavior, as well.”
