MOULTRIE, Ga. — Since midnight a man was shot to death in Moultrie and a woman was seriously hurt in an automobile accident in rural Colquitt County.

Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock identified the shooting victim only as a 25-year-old black man. Brock said his office was contacted at 12:10 a.m. today about a gunshot victim at Colquitt Regional Medical Center. The man was pronounced dead at 12:42 a.m.

Brock said the shooting occurred in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue Southwest.

This morning’s wreck on Sardis Church Road was fortunately not fatal, but there are a lot of unanswered questions about it.

The injured woman was taken by helicopter to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, the Georgia State Patrol said, and she is expected to live.

The Hispanic woman gave officers a false name, so right now they don’t know who she is, the GSP said. Two passengers, also described as Hispanics, left the scene before they were identified.

The Moultrie Observer is seeking more information about both incidents from the investigating law enforcement agencies and expects separate stories to be posted online tonight and to be published in Wednesday’s print edition.
