Doerun gets ready for 2017 May Day

DOERUN, Ga. — The City of Doerun is gearing up for its annual May Day festivities, which will begin Friday, May 5.
The evening will kick off at 7 p.m. with a karaoke contest with a $300 cash prize. Ages 13 and up can sign up at the Doerun Booster tent.
Big Brothers Boom Box will perform 9 p.m. to midnight. They’re “a high-energy party band playing the best of oldies, motown, classic rock and ’60s through today’s pop hits,” according to a press release from the Doerun Boosters, who sponsor May Day each year.
Food vendors and local merchants will be on hand.
Saturday, May 6, begins with a parade and maypole dance at 10 a.m. Festivities kick off in Peach Tree Park at 11 a.m.
Activities will include clogging, gospel singing, local singing talent, door prizes, many activities for children including a mobile zip line, bounce houses, mechanical bull, rock climbing wall, face painting, balloon art, ping pong ball toss, arts & crafts vendors, food & drink vendors, and a cake walk hosted by Liberty Hill Baptist Church.
The day will conclude with a street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight featuring Tobacco Road.
There is no entry fee for the parade or festival.
