THOMASVILLE — U.S. President Donald J. Trump cannot be bought, bribed or blackmailed.
So said 8th District Congressman Austin Scott, speaker Saturday at the 8th District Republican Convention in Thomasville.
Scott, (R-Tifton), said the president will declare a war on drugs.
Another drug-related situation Scott addressed is the low cost of some prescription drugs in Europe, while the price is astronomical for the same drug in the United States. He said Republican leadership will look at the price discrepancies.
William Vaught, Houston County Republican Party chairman, thinks Trump is doing a great job. Despite roadblocks he is encountering, the president is doing his best to keep campaign promises, Vaught said.
A sergeant-at-arms at the Saturday gathering, Vaught is retired form the U.S. Air Force and law enforcement and is a former volunteer firefighter.
Vaught said he is not against medical insurance coverage for Americans, but Obamacare “was implemented the wrong way.” He thinks a new law will pass when differences are resolved.
Democrats, Vaught said, need to “clean house,” or they will not have a chance in the 2020 presidential election.
“I’m pleased with his (Trump’s) 100 days,” Sondra Supp, Lowndes County Republican Party first vice chairman and chairman of convention registration and credentials, said.
Bobby Brown, a Thomas County resident, thinks Trump is trying to keep campaign promises.
“I think he’s trying his best to do what he said he would do,” Brown said, “but he is having trouble getting backing from his party and, of course, the Democrats.
Brown, a former Thomas County commissioner who works is real estate sales and is a consulting forester, said the political parties must come together for the good of the country.
