THOMASVILLE — A Thomasville teen has been charged with a number of crimes, and police continue to search for stolen firearms related to the activity.
The suspect, Stephone Javone Thomas, 17, 419 Glen Arven Drive, is charged with two counts of larceny from vehicle, two counts of larceny of a weapon, one count of burglary, and one count of stolen vehicle.
Thomas was denied bond and remains in the Thomas County Jail.
On Saturday, an individual saw Thomas in a vehicle parked at a Mississippi Avenue business and notified police.
“Through further investigation, investigators were able to link Thomas to the entering auto on Mississippi Avenue, as well as another incident on Imperial Drive, where a 2015 Chevrolet pickup truck was stolen,” Maj. Eric Hampton, Thomasville Police Department public information officer, said.
The truck, from which a shotgun was stolen, was recovered in the 500 block of West Calhoun Street.
Two vehicles were entered in the 2000 block of East Pinetree Boulevard. Two handguns were stolen — a Glock 23 .40-caliber and a Springfield XDS .45-caliber.
“Thomas has been linked to all of the crimes,” Hampton said.
Detectives were told some of the stolen weapons were in Cherokee Lake, Police Chief Troy Rich said.
The Thomasville-Thomas County Dive Team searched the lake but did not find the firearms.
Rich said police are now searching woodlines in the city.
“We’re actively searching those areas, too,” the chief said.
