MOULTRIE – Colquitt County High’s Lady Packers gymnasts as a team scored a 104.575 for eighth place at the area meet held last weekend in Dunwoody High. The top six teams move on to the GHSA championships to be held today at Ola High School.
Senior Timia Fowler qualified as an individual on vault (9.65), floor (9.4), and All-Around (36.925).
Junior Jordan Yates qualified on bars (9.2) and floor (9.1).
“Timia had been out of gym for a week and half prior to the state prelim meet,” said coach Patti Wier. “We were worried that she was not going to be able to compete at all. She had a wonderful meet considering the two days practice she had. She is a talented gymnast to be able to walk in at the area meet and compete as great as she did. At the state championship she should have an outstanding meet and I hope to see her on the podium.
“Jordan has been a leader on this team for three years. She works so hard and has so much determination. She lead the team on bars at area with a 9.2. She had a great floor routine, its so dramatic! We hope to see her on podium on one of the events or both.
Timia and Jordan have worked this week at practice fixing little things that will make a huge difference in their scores tomorrow.
“Although we did not qualify as a team, we accomplished so much this year. Our third spot for team score on each event was contributed by girls who are not in the gym full time. Two of them are cheerleaders and the other is a diver. They had difficulty on their events that actually helped us have the highest score from South Georgia.
“Senior Evelyn Fagan will be missed next year with her grace and beauty when she performs. She helped so much on bars, beam and vault. Lilian Fagan, who has not been in the gym since middle school, was a huge asset. Freshman Kilby Hunnicutt, who has amazing strength helped out on beam and floor. Kilby and Lilian gained so much difficulty as the season progressed.”
