Representatives from Hero House, DFACS, MADD South Georgia, local law enforcement and others dressed in blue in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month.

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Routinely, accounts of child abuse show up in the local crime report.

These cases may range from neglect to sexual assaults. It’s not unusual to see where the Department of Family and Children Services have taken custody of children.

Many times children are put in the care of other family members and sometimes they are placed in Foster Care.

In conjunction with these needs, the public is constantly reminded of the need for more foster parents.

Recently, men, women and children all over Colquitt County and the nation wored blue to bring awareness to child abuse and neglect.

In the midst of this issue, here in Colquitt County we have Hero House. Officially, its the Childrens Advocacy Center of Colquitt County.

“We ecourage all individuals and organizations to promote and strengthen child abuse prevention efforts in our community and to acknowledge the importance of communities and families working together to prevent child abuse,” said Shannon Bell, executive director of Hero House.

“When we focus on preventing child abuse and neglect, the results are better childhoods, leading to healthier adults and stronger communities,” she added.
