TIFTON — As prom season rolls around, Tift County High School is gearing up for its 11th annual Prom Dress and Tuxedo Drive.

Guidance counselor Octavia Faulk, who is heading up the drive, said that they are looking for new or gently used items, and that monetary donations to help pay for hair or nails are appreciated.

Faulk said that last year they had at least eight girls who were in need of everything from dresses to hair and makeup, and more who only needed dresses.

“We always have kids who want to go to prom,” Faulk said, “but when your parents have to choose between paying a bill and putting money towards a prom dress, they’re going to pay the bill.”

Faulk said that tuxedos do not have to be complete to be donated, and that any dresses donated should meet the dress code requirements.

“The chest area needs to be fully covered and the bottom area needs to be fully covered,” she said.

Dresses that have cutouts and sleeveless dresses are acceptable, so long as those areas are fully covered.

Faulk also said they are hoping to receive more plus sized dresses this year.

“We always run out of those really quickly,” she said.

Prom Night is April 22, so the cut off date for accepting dresses and tuxedos will be Tuesday, April 18 to allow time to get the formal wear dry cleaned if necessary.

All items and or donations may be delivered to the Tift County High School Guidance Office.
