VALDOSTA, Ga. — Sunny skies and warm days are here, hard on the heels of stormy weather last week.

A high-pressure system will bring South Georgia’s daytime highs into the lower 80s, said Andy Lahr, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service’s Tallahassee, Fla., office.

“It’s going to be quiet, warm and dry,” said Jordan Root, a meteorologist for the private forecasting firm AccuWeather. The high-pressure system should anchor itself off the coast of the Carolinas all week long, he said, bringing dry weather to most of the Southeast.

Lahr said no rain is expected through the work week. He said a slight chance of rain may develop during the weekend.

Root also said the week should be high and dry for South Georgia, though he did foresee a slight chance of a stray shower as a weak cold front moves down from Tennessee Wednesday.

“More than likely, though, (the cold front) will drizzle out,” he said.

Highs through the week will run five to 10 degrees above normal, Root said. The average high for Valdosta for this time of year is usually 77 degrees, he said.

Neither meteorologist saw much of a chance of severe weather this week.
