Results still not determined in Cairo infant death

CAIRO — Two months to the date of the incident, Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials are still waiting on autopsy results regarding the death of a newborn female infant.
“There’s a lot of things they look at, especially with an infant,” Special Agent in Charge Jamy Steinberg said.
Steinberg said numerous tests, such as family medical history and toxicology, have to be completed because the autopsy being conducted on an infant.
The tests are completed to explain the cause of death outside of any visual aspects, such as a wound, Steinburg added.
Steinburg did not know when the autopsy results would be determined.
The death was reported on Feb. 10. On the same date, the infant was taken to Grady General Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The Grady County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from Thomasville’s GBI Regional Office to assist in the death investigation.
The body was transported to the GBI Crime Lab in Macon to undergo an autopsy on Feb. 13.
