MOULTRIE, Ga. — A number of Colquitt County churches will again prepare for Easter by participating in a five-day community scripture reading on the Courthouse Square.

Now in its ninth year, the event will run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. daily at the amphitheater on the square.

According to John Eubanks, co-pastor at Friendship Alliance Church and one of the leaders of the Colquitt County Pastors Prayer Group, churches throughout the community have agreed to have their members read in three-hour segments.

Eubanks said each day will start with a prayer and then reading will begin from the New Testament of a New International Version of the Bible.

Once the New Testament has been completed, the readers will return to Matthew and start all over.

“It’s our way of getting ready for Easter,” Eubanks said.

On Good Friday, April 14, beginning at noon, St. Marks Anglican Church will celebrate the Stations of the Cross around the Courthouse Square.

The community scripture reading will conclude with a worship service beginning at 6 p.m. that evening on the Square.

Funston Baptist Church is leading the service and has asked Pastor Josh Myrick of Calvary Baptist Church to be the guest speaker.

Eubanks said the community is invited and encouraged to attend the service.

The service will use the stage and the sound system that will be used later in the evening by the Spring Fling, which also will begin Friday.

The Colquitt County Pastors Prayer Group is also sponsoring the Turn2017 community revival that will be held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, on the Tom White Field at Mack Tharpe Stadium.

Some 37 churches have come together to sponsor the event, which will feature former Colquitt countian Pastor Terrence Jones as the guest speaker.

Jones, who grew up in Colquitt County and attended Tuskegee University, is the lead pastor at Strong Tower at Washington Park in Montgomery, Ala.

A community barbecue picnic will be held at the stadium following the service. Eubanks said the group is prepared to serve some 2,500 people.
