Gas prices take big hike in Valdosta

VALDOSTA — Gasoline prices in Valdosta continued their upward climb last week.
The average price for a gallon of regular gas in the city Sunday was $2.20, up six cents from seven days earlier, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The lowest price in Valdosta Sunday was $2.09 at a Baytree Road store, while the highest was $2.65 at a North Patterson Street retailer, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com.
A weeks-long trend of no stations in Valdosta reporting gas for under $2 a gallon was continued last week, according to gasbuddy.
Nationally, the average price of fuel Sunday was $2.32, up three cents from the previous week, while Georgia’s average price of $2.20 was up from $2.16 in the same period, the auto club said.
Recovering from an early slide Friday, benchmark U.S. crude rose 25 cents to close at $50.60 per barrel in New York. Brent crude, used to price international oils, slipped 13 cents to close at $52.83 a barrel in London. Natural gas held steady at $3.19 per 1,000 cubic feet. Wholesale gasoline rose 2 cents to $1.70 per gallon and heating oil gained 2 cents to $1.57 per gallon.
