City council approves purchases

THOMASVILLE — At a Monday meeting, Thomasville City Council members approved purchasing office furniture and equipment, a mower and trucks.

The city will purchase furniture and equipment for the renovated engineering department from Office Environments in Tallahassee, Florida, for $81,464.33 on a state contract. A local company declined to bid on the furniture.

A landfill mower will be replaced with a Rhino Flex 15. The equipment will be purchased from AG-PRO for $16,000. AG-PRO in Thomasville, is the sole source for the mower, council information shows.

In sanitation, the purchase of a landfill pickup truck from Stallings Motors in Thomasville, for $37,775, was approved.

Also OK’d was the purchase of a front-load refuse truck from Consolidated Equipment for $251,937.

Third-party financing on the purchases will be used if necessary.

In other business, council members amended a Community Development Block Grant application to comply with grant requirements about conflicts of interest.

The application is for primarily sewer work in the Fletcherville area of the city.

City Attorney Tim Sanders said Mayor Greg Hobbs’ sister lives in the area for which the grant is being requested. As a result, Hobbs will not participate in council discussions about the grant.
