DALTON, Ga. — One man is dead and three others are hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash on the North Bypass in Dalton on Saturday around 4:30 p.m.
A Dalton Police Department spokesman reported Sunday that a black Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on the bypass just south of Sawgrass Drive and for some reason left its lane, crossed the center line and hit a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado truck head-on.
The driver of the Mustang, Marquis Steffon Perry, 22, of Dalton, was taken to Hamilton Medical Center where he died. A driver and one of two passengers in the pickup were taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga with serious injuries. A back-seat passenger was taken to Hamilton Medical Center. None of the victims, all male, have been identified.
A third vehicle traveling northbound was caught in the crash; however, nobody in that vehicle was injured, the spokesman said in a statement. No other information on the passengers or the vehicle were available.
The release said the driver of the Mustang was not wearing a seat belt.
An investigation is underway and a police traffic unit will attempt to find out why the Mustang left its lane.
