MOULTRIE, Ga. — State Route 133 traffic will move Wednesday morning to newly constructed lanes from north of the intersection of SR 333 in Brooks County to south of Southerland Avenue in Berlin.

The traffic shift is necessary to allow contractor The Scruggs Co. of Hahira to reconstruct the old lanes, the Georgia Department of Transportation said Tuesday. Drivers should be prepared for a change in the traffic pattern and are asked to slow down in the construction zone.

Georgia DOT is widening/reconstructing SR 133 by sections between Valdosta and Albany.

This particular section of SR 133 is 9.63 miles long, from Old Quitman Adel Road in Brooks County to Old Berlin Road in Colquitt County. The construction cost is $35 million. Work began about 12 months ago and the completion date is April 30, 2018.

This is the second traffic shift on the highway in two days. On Tuesday afternoon, The Scruggs Co. shifted traffic on Highway 133 about 3,000 feet south of Pauline Church Road in Brooks County so it can reconstruct the existing lanes.

That $28.2 million project is widening and/or reconstructing 5.43 miles of Highway 133 from Pauline Church Road to Old Quitman Adel Road. The completion date is Oct. 31, 2018.

Two sections have been completed and three others have been let or are under construction. Those five projects together cover Highway 133 from Moultrie to Valdosta.

Projects from Moultrie to Albany are still in the planning stages.
