MOULTRIE, Ga. — An 18-year-old Colquitt County student faces felony charges after a Monday run-in with a school administrator and deputies as buses were loading in the afternoon.

Darius Dawson, principal at Colquitt County Achievement Center, told police that while monitoring his students who board buses at the 105 Darbyshire Road Colquitt County High campus he asked Rodney Brown whether he had a cell phone on him. Students who attend the achievement center program located at the Park Avenue campus are prohibited from possessing phones.

Brown responded that he had another student at the high school hold it for him during the day so that he did not have it at his school during the day. When Dawson responded that Brown was not allowed to have a phone on a bus either, he became angry and used vulgar language, Dawson told police.

A deputy on the campus told Brown, who had walked away, to return to Dawson, but Brown refused, police said. Brown walked between buses trying to hide and eventually got on his bus. He exited the bus as instructed, but balled up his fists and again used vulgar and threatening language toward both Dawson and the deputy, according to police reports.

A second deputy came over to try to defuse the situation, and eventually Brown stopped yelling obscenities at the administrator and first officer and said, “Let’s go,” indicating he was ready to go to jail, the reports said.

As an officer was searching Brown, police said, he turned his head in Dawson’s direction and made additional threats.

Police charged Brown, 600 Green St., Doerun, with terroristic threats and acts and disorderly conduct.
