MOULTRIE, Ga. — A fight and gunshots that rang out early Sunday morning at a Moultrie nightclub led to the arrest of a Moultrie man after police found him in possession of suspected marijuana and ecstasy.
On Monday investigators were still investigating the incident. Marcus Palmore was arrested after police found suspected marijuana in his pants pocket during a search, police said. Two women also were taken to jail.
Although multiple shots were reportedly fired, no one was injured, Moultrie police said.
Officers responded at about 1 a.m. to the Jackpot club at 2427 S. Main St., to reports of gunshots fired. When they arrived a “large group” of people were fighting in the parking lot.
Several people were holding Palmore, whom they identified as the person who had the gun. The search turned up no weapon on Palmore and officers were still trying to put the pieces together.
“There was some type of altercation inside the club,” Moultrie Police Department Maj. Tonero Bender said. “It went outside the club. An unknown person fired shots.”
An officer detained and handcuffed Palmore because witnesses had identified him as the person who had fired a weapon. Police arrested him after finding the suspected marijuana in a plastic bag in his front pocket. He also had $738 in cash at the time, police said.
When Palmore took off his shoes at Colquitt County Jail, police said, a clear plastic bag containing suspected ecstasy pills fell to the floor.
He faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, reckless conduct and two counts criminal damage to property.
Molly Kennedy, 34, and Nakieya Huckaby, both of Moultrie, were listed as victims, and the police report noted three cars in the report — 2017 Chevrolet Traverse, 2003 Honda Accord and 2001 Cadillac Deville.
Police reports indicated that a 32-year-old woman also was arrested during their investigation, along with another woman who also was listed as a witness in the incident. Police reports did not indicate what charges were filed against the women.
