ALBANY — A participant trims a bonsai tree during the 2016 Master Gardener event at the Albany Mall.

This year’s event will be 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 18, in the J.C. Penney wing of the mall. Visit displays and speak with advisors on plants and gardening, beekeeping, bonsai, birding, container gardening and more. Included are activities for children, as well as vegetables and plants for sale.

Southwest Georgia Master Gardener Volunteers donate approximately 900 hours annually presenting educational programs, improving landscaping and assisting UGA Extension. Last year they traveled almost 9,000 miles and made over 6,000 contacts. The Extension office is located in Dougherty County, but the Master Gardener Volunteers’ sphere of influence includes 13 neighboring counties.
