Azalea Festival this weekend

VALDOSTA, Ga. — The Azalea Festival will return this weekend to Drexel Park in Valdosta for its 17th year. What started as a small festival has grown into an event that draws attention from across the South with hundreds of vendors, according to organizers. In 2016, the festival featured more than 170 arts-and-crafts vendors and had an average two-day attendance of 25,000, according to the Valdosta-Lowndes Azalea Festival website. The 2017 festival is expected to bring approximately 200 arts and crafts vendors and is anticipated to be the largest to date, said H. Aaron Strickland, festival executive director. It also marks the first festival since the passing of Azalea Festival Founder Joanne Griner and is being hosted in her honor. With record numbers expected for this festival, parking could become problematic.  Strickland suggested utilizing VSU’s parking decks and lots will be easiest for attendees.
