Thief hits trucking company again

MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie trucking company was again the target of a thief who stole a semi trailer full of furniture.

Unlike the previous incident, last weekend’s thief didn’t bring his own truck.

Colquitt County sheriff’s deputies responded to Broadleaf Contracting, 3333 Freedom Lane, on Monday, where a company official told them the theft had taken place between noon Sunday and 5:55 a.m. Monday.

The deputy’s report described how someone entered the trucking firm’s property, cranked a 2009 Freightliner semi truck, hooked it to a 53-foot trailer and drove away.

The truck was valued at $18,000, and the trailer at another $8,000. The trailer was filled with 43 pieces of furniture, the value of which was not known.

The theft is very similar to one reported Feb. 11 from the same facility, but in that incident the thief had his own truck that he hooked to the trailer full of furniture and drove away.

Two other trailers of furniture were stolen from the same company’s facility in Cairo, deputies said.

Investigators said Feb. 19 that two of the stolen trailers had been found in Albany, and some of the furniture had been recovered. A store in Dawson had bought some of the furniture, and a video at the store had recorded images of the man who sold it; deputies released a still image from that video on Feb. 19, but no arrest has been made.
