Remembering: “Mr. Walden thanks for reminding us that Jackie Robinson was from nearby Cairo. I guess I hadn’t stopped to think about the famous athletes from your hometown. I recall both Bobby Walden and Bill Stanfill. I understand Bobby now resides in Bainbridge.

Good commentary

“Dwain that was a good piece on Jackie Robinson. I agree, how could society have been so ignorant? That said, let’s don’t forget the great Leroy ‘Satchel’ Paige who was the first African-American to pitch in a world series.

In response

“To the person who referred to Mr. Walden ‘scratching off another scab’ with his commentary on the lynching of Mary Turner. You made reference to another heinous act near Autryville many years back. What’s that got to do with the butchering of Mary Turner? Only a narrowed-minded, uneducated and unenlightened person (obviously white), would draw the analogy of ‘scratching off another scab.’

Segregated schools

“Will the NAACP and ACLU please look into our segregated schools? When will we finally gain equality for our children?

Won’t work that way

“To the rave individual enjoying a farm workers return to Mexico leaving “greedy” owners failing. Sorry won’t work that way. History shows farmers will automate and plant less. Farm payrolls will fall also; Research the 1930s and 1960s. Democrats in office were horrified when that happened.

Gravy train comment

“Reference is made to the person who said, ‘Looks like the farmer’s gravy train may dry up soon.” Just remember this: when their “gravy train’ dries up, so will your kitchen. Can you name three people who would or could do the work these migrants do? Seems you put your mouth into gear before turning on your mind!

Garbage issue

“Here it is 6 p.m. on Friday and my nice green container is still sitting in the drive way waiting for the city to pick up the trash. Good work city manager. What a joke this has turned into.

Wasted money

“Wasting money on pocket parks in a city full of empty stores?
