DALTON, Ga. — A Dalton man was arrested after law enforcement officials say he drove through a road block set up by two Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were attempting to stop him.

Chase Michael Cady, 25, of 206 Prestwood Drive, was charged Wednesday with two counts of aggravated assault on an officer engaged in duties.

Capt. Rick Swiney with the sheriff’s office said deputies were assisting Dalton police officers in trying to stop Cady.

“It’s my understanding that Dalton officers were chasing him at slow speed when two of our deputies set up a road block on Wisteria Road to block him. (Cady) started driving his vehicle toward the deputies, who had to move to avoid being hit,” Swiney said.

According to an incident report, Deputy Ryan Rogers and Lt. Franz Rice saw Cady’s Ford pickup truck turning east on Wisteria Drive early Wednesday after 4 a.m. The driver turned off his headlights while driving down Wisteria. He then turned around and started west to Dug Gap Road.

“Both Deputy Rogers and Lt. Rice had to drive off the roadway to avoid being struck by the truck,” the report states.

The report states that on Wednesday around 4:18 a.m. Dalton police were sent to a report of a driver in a pickup truck passed out in the McDonald’s drive-thru on East Walnut Avenue. The truck left McDonald’s and at 4:29 a.m. Dalton police requested help.

“They were attempting to stop the Ford truck. They were driving south on Dug Gap at approximately 10 miles per hour,” the incident report states.

Dalton officers said the truck was driving on the wrong side of the road, endangering other traffic.

According to the report, the driver went north on Dug Gap Road. Another deputy was traveling south on Dug Gap and deployed stop sticks north of Oakmont Drive, which the Ford truck ran over, deflating the left front tire. The driver continued north on Dug Gap where he lost control, the truck struck a mailbox at 1408 Dug Gap Road and wrecked in the yard at 1409 Dug Gap Road. The driver fled on foot into some woods. He was arrested by Whitfield County deputies.
