MOULTRIE — The Colquitt County girls basketball team won its first two Class 7A state tournament games in front their appreciative fans in Moultrie, but will have to climb aboard a bus for its next game.

After knocking off North Cobb and Brookwood in their first two state tournament games, the Lady Packers lost a coin flip with Archer and will travel to Lawrenceville on Tuesday for their 6 p.m. Elite Eight game.

According to the GHSA bracket, the site of a tournament game between two teams of the same seed is to be determined by a coin toss.

The Lady Packers, who are now 23-4, are the Region 1 champions.

Archer, the Region 8 champion, has advanced with victories over Mountain View and, on Wednesday, Pebblebrook and is 24-4.

Both Colquitt County and Archer are the lone tournament survivors from their regions.

The Lady Packers are coming off the school’s first region championship since 1988 and their first Sweet 16 win since 2006.

With Wednesday’s 41-36 win over Brookwood on the William Bryant Court, the Colquitt girls have reached 23 victories.

Only the 1983-1984 team that went 24-3 has more.

Colquitt will have its hands full with the Tigers, who last reached the quarterfinals two years ago.

Archer cruised by Mountain View 60-52 in the first round, but controlled the boards in eliminating Pebblebrook 72-43 on Wednesday.

The Tigers were not perfect, shooting under 40 percent from the field and missing 11 free throw attemps.

But they grabbed 43 rebounds, including 19 off the offensive boards, and came up with 16 steals to run away from Pebblebrook.

Archer led by as many as 33 points in the fourth quarter.

The Archer-Colquitt County winner will advance to the Final Four, which will be played March 4 at the University of West Georgia.

The championship game will be played at 6 p.m. on March 11 at Georgia Tech.

Colquitt County, which will take a 10-game winning streak to Archer, made use of the home court advantage this season, winning 12-of-13 on the William Bryant Court.
