MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Detectives are working a theft case in which more than $11,000 in assorted tools and other items were recently stolen from a construction site in Baldwin County.
As of Monday morning, no one had been arrested in connection with the crime, according to Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detective Capt. Brad King, who heads the criminal investigations division.
King said several detectives were actively working together in an attempt to solve the case. The lead detective assigned to the case is Thomas “T.J.” Hargrove.
The theft took place sometime between 5 p.m. Feb. 17 and 6:30 a.m. Feb. 18, according to an incident report filed by Deputy Christopher Jackson.
The items taken from the construction site at 10 Meriwether Place near the intersection of Meriwether Road and North Columbia Street were valued at $11,260, Jackson said in his report.
Some of the assorted tools and other items included: saws, ladders, air compressors, a rigid press tool, assorted hammers, drills, an air gun, a leaf blower, several cans of paint, several boxes of nails, and wall in cooler section walls.
Authorities said there are three victims involved in the construction theft case. Two of those victims are from Putnam County. The other victim is from Hahira and is with a firm known as Plumbing Service Company.
The deputy spoke to all three victims before Detective Hargrove was called to the scene.
According to the report, a gate used to access the property was discovered unsecured. The gate previously had been secured with a chain and a combination lock when work crews left about 5 p.m. the day before.
Some of the items stolen were taken from inside the building currently under construction, one of the victims told the deputy. Several other items were stolen from a large Contex container, which also had been secured by a lock.
One of the victims told authorities at the scene that someone must have used a key, because the lock had not been damaged. He also suspected that the person or persons who committed the crime must have known the combination to the lock on the front gate.
One of the victims told authorities that someone stole a storage container on wheels that contained an assortment of tools, as well as six to eight walk-in cooler walls.
