WASHINGTON, D.C. — Last week, both U.S. Rep. Austin Scott, R-Tifton, and U.S. Sen. David Perdue, R-Ga., announced their subcommittee assignments on the Armed Services and Agriculture committees, respectively.
On the House Armed Services Committee Scott was newly appointed to the Emerging Threats and Capabilities (ETC) Subcommittee for the 115th Congress. Additionally, Scott will continue his service on the Readiness Subcommittee and the Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee.
“As the only Republican Representative from Georgia on the House Armed Services Committee, I am proud to serve on three respected subcommittees that oversee many issues affecting our state’s military installations,” Scott said. “Georgia is a major contributor to our nation’s defense, and with growing threats both domestic and abroad, it is more important than ever that we fight to ensure all of our country’s bases have the capabilities to adequately protect our nation.
The Emerging Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee oversees counter-terrorism programs, U.S. Special Operations Forces, and makes sure the nation is protected against terrorist attacks and unconventional threats, according to a release from Scott’s office. The Readiness Subcommittee has jurisdiction over training, sustainment, military construction, depot policy, civilian personnel, and the BRAC process. The Oversight and Investigation Subcommittee conducts investigates cases of waste, fraud, and abuse within the Department of Defense.
On the Senate Agriculture Committee, Perdue announced he will be chairman of the Livestock, Marketing, and Agriculture Security Subcommittee, as well as a member of the Nutrition, Agriculture Research, and Specialty Crops Subcommittee and the Commodities, Risk Management, and Trade Subcommittee.
“Agriculture is Georgia’s biggest industry,” Perdue said. “It’s humbling to represent our farm families and agricultural traditions through this committee. Out-of-control regulations have hurt farmers, and I look forward to being a voice for a thriving agriculture industry in Georgia and the United States.”
The Livestock, Marketing, and Agriculture Security Subcommittee oversees matters involving livestock and dairy production, as well as markets, food safety, and security issues.
The Nutrition, Agriculture Research, and Specialty Crops Subcommittee oversees programs regarding food and nutrition assistance, school meals, non-program crops and research.
The Commodities, Risk Management, and Trade Subcommittee oversees matters regarding production agriculture, including commodity programs, crop insurance, commodity exchanges, agriculture trade, international food assistance, and credit.
