Gas prices creep up in South Georgia

VALDOSTA, Ga.— Gasoline prices crept up slightly in Valdosta last week.
The average price of a gallon of regular gasoline in Lowndes County Sunday was $2.17, up two cents from seven days earlier, according to AAA’s Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
The lowest price in Valdosta Sunday was $2.05 at a store on U.S. 84 while the highest price was $2.59 at a retailer on North Patterson Street, according to the price tracking website gasbuddy.com. No stores were selling fuel for less than $2 a gallon, continuing a weeks-long trend, said gasbuddy.
Nationally, the average price of fuel was unchanged during the week, staying at $2.28, while Georgia’s average price for the same period was also unmoving at $2.18, the auto club said.
In Friday market action, benchmark U.S. crude oil rose 4 cents to settle at $53.40 a barrel. Brent crude, the international standard, fell 16 cents to close at $55.81 a barrel. Natural gas fell 2 cents to $2.83 per 1,000 cubic feet, wholesale gasoline fell nearly 1 cent to $1.52 per gallon and heating oil rose a fraction of a penny to $1.64 per gallon.
