MOULTRIE — Each year electric membership cooperatives (EMCs) across Georgia send delegates to our nation’s capital. The Washington Youth Tour is an opportunity for high school students to grow as leaders and experience a trip of a lifetime.

This year’s event takes place June 8-15, when hundreds of EMCs across the country, including Colquitt EMC, send participants to Washington D.C. for a chance to learn about the cooperative business model and enjoy a full week of visiting the nation’s most treasured memorials and monuments.

This year, approximately 100 high school juniors across Georgia will be selected for this week-long trip. The tour is not just an opportunity to visit the nation’s capital, but also a chance to gain crucial leadership skills and interact with fellow delegates from varying backgrounds and geographies.

“Meeting our legislators in Washington is just one of many activities that teen delegates experience during the week,” said Joni Fox with Colquitt EMC. “This trip changes participants’ perspectives and benefits them far into the future. “

Colquitt EMC is currently accepting applications from local students to attend Youth Tour 2017. In order to be considered for this year’s Washington Youth Tour, interested students should live in a household of a member of Colquitt EMC, be at least 16 years old, hold a GPA of 2.5 or higher and currently be a high school junior.  Applications are available at www.colquittemc.com or in any Colquitt EMC office. Applications will be accepted through Wednesday, March 1.

Colquitt EMC is a member-owned cooperative providing service to over 43,000 members in Berrien, Brooks, Colquitt, Cook, Lowndes, Tift, and Worth counties.
