“These hams go through a curing process that starts in September,” Hollis said.

Wednesday afternoon, the hams and 50 dozen eggs were auctioned off at the Lowndes County Extension Office.

The Ham and Egg Show spans generations.

Velma Miles said her father was one of the founders of the original Lowndes County Ham and Egg Show.

Her grandson, Jamier Miles, took part in the 2017 show.

“Our goal this year was to get more children involved,” Miles said, “and I think we accomplished that.”

Joii Woolfoork’s ham won grand champion ham.

James R. McCogle’s eggs won grand champion egg.

Cass Burch placed the top bid for Woolford’s ham and McCoggle’s eggs at the auction.

Lowndes County Sheriff Ashley Paulk bought ham and eggs at the auction as well.

Derrek Dawson is reserve champion for hams; Charlie Flannigan won first-place adult; Jordan Moye won first-place youth.

Martha Lucas is reserve champion for eggs; Shante Horton won third place; Marie Phillips won fourth.
