Colquitt County boys basketball to play for 1-7A tournament championship

VALDOSTA – For the first time in school history, Colquitt County High is going to host a GHSA state boys basketball game.

On Thursday, the Packers dominated Lowndes High on the Vikings home court 76-55. It was such a runaway that the fourth quarter was played with the mercy rule. Colquitt owned a 31-point lead, 67-36, after three periods.

“We played like we practiced Wednesday,” said coach Andy Harden. “It was the best defensive effort we’ve had in a long time. The whole game.”

The onslaught started in the first quarter with Colquitt leading 22-12, and then it was 43-21 at halftime.

Tyrese King had 18 points, DaNas Andrews 16, Cameron Singletary 13 and Jy Andrews seven.

The Packers today face Tift County for the Region 1-7A Tournament championship at 7:30 p.m. The Lady Packers also play in the 1-7A finals at 6 p.m. on the Lowndes court.

“I thank the fans who drove down and supported us (Thursday),” said Harden. “It meant a lot.”
