Diamond Hall tabbed Region 1-7A Girls Basketball Player of the Year

MOULTRIE – By averaging a double-double in 24 games, Colquitt County High guard Diamond Hall is the Region 1-7A girls basketball Player of the Year for 2016-17.

Her coach Rondesha Williams, after guiding the Lady Packers to a 20-4 record, the No. 1 seed of the 1-7A tournament and a bye all the way to Friday’s finals at Lowndes, is the Coach of the Year.

With an average of 23.3 points per game, forward Za’Nautica Downs is the Offensive Player of the Year. Downs, only two games into the current season, surpassed 1,000 career points. She and Hall are juniors.

Hall’s scoring average is 18.4 and her rebounding average is 10.5. Sometimes she threatens to get a triple-double, for Hall also averages four steals a game and 2.7 assists.

From the Lady Packers, point guard Akia Sutton is All-Region First Team, forward Kiarra Lovett is All-Region Second Team and guards Abiyah Spencer and Tionna Hunt are Honorable Mentions.

With Colquitt County High boys basketball looking for the first 20-win season in three decades, coach Andy Harden is Co-Coach of the Year in 1-7A with Donnie Holland of Lowndes. Lowndes finished second in the region but pulled off an upset of No. 1 Tift County in Tifton.

Blue Devil forward P.J. Horne, who according to Becky Taylor of The Tifton Gazette committed Saturday to Virginia Tech, is the Region’s Player of the Year.

Packers on the All-Region First Team are guards Cameron Singletary and Tyrese King. Senior forward DaNas Andrews made the Second Team, while Jarvis Christopher and Quentin Dopson are Honorable Mentions.
