MOULTRIE, Ga. — The City of Moultrie and Moultrie Police Department on Wednesday started implementing new technology designed to improve transparency in policing.

The system, developed by the technology company Open Policing, enables the community to provide anonymous feedback regarding their experiences with law enforcement using a quick and easy to use web-based platform, according to a press release from the police department.

Moultrie Police Department is committed to continuous improvement and believes that listening to the public is an important part of building trust and transparency, Moultrie Police Chief Frank Lang said.

“Our officers experience hundreds of interactions with our community each month and we believe that by giving the community a voice, we can learn, grow, and become better at serving our residents,” Lang said.

Open Policing is an ongoing feedback system that aggregates public sentiment and makes it publicly available to both the community and Moultrie Police Department so that the department can improve its policies and practices, the press release said.

“Our goal is to help law enforcement agencies better engage their communities, build trust, and measure public sentiment through feedback,” said the organization’s founder, Patrick Johnson. “Ultimately, our goal is to help law enforcement agencies make the necessary interventions to better serve their communities and improve public safety,” he said.

The City of Moultrie is one of the best small towns in America, said Moultrie City Manager Pete Dillard.

“Our residents are engaged and care deeply about every facet of our community and should expect excellence from every agency with whom they interact,” he said. “The city is proud to be among the first in the nation to take proactive steps to leverage technology and innovation of this kind to give the community a voice.”

The police department began on Tuesday the Beta program rollout of the platform.
