Perdue to hold February mobile office hours
TIFTON, Ga. – U.S. Senator David Perdue has announced mobile office hours for the month of February. Mobile office hours are opportunities for Georgians to meet with Perdue’s staff members in various locations across the state. “Serving Georgians is one of my top priorities,” said Perdue in a press release this week. “My team and I want to help all Georgians that may not otherwise be able to visit our Atlanta office location. We have field representatives based in each region of the state, and we are excited for the opportunity to extend the reach of our constituent services in the coming months.” The mobile office will be in Tifton 10 a.m.—1 p.m., Feb. 20. The office will be held at Tift County Farm Bureau on 1618 Whiddon Mill Road. One dead in Thursday wreck
JASPER, Fla. — JASPER — A man was pronounced deceased after his vehicle struck a tree Thursday night, according to Florida Highway Patrol. According to the report, Bryan Gregory Cribbs, 37, of Jasper was traveling eastbound on SW 90th Boulevard around 7:05 p.m. The report states Cribbs traveled off the roadway and the front of his 2000 Mercury Mountain struck a tree. Cribbs was pronounced deceased on the scene by Hamilton County Fire Rescue.
According to the report, Cribbs was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Heart Assoiation honors 2 Colquitt County schools
MOULTRIE, Ga — A Colquitt County elementary and middle school were recognized recently for success at raising money for the American Heart Association in the 2015-16 school year. Okapilco Elementary, located between Moultrie and Sylvester, raised $4,853 through its “Jump Rope for Heart” event, the most of any of the county’s schools. Williams Middle School in Moultrie raised $1,501.40 through “Hoops for Heart.” In all, the county schools raised more than $22,000 for the Heart Association.
Guns and Peacocks featured in ‘Covering Flannery’
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A prosthetic leg, an arrow-pierced crow, and a burning cross are among the ink drawings that will be on display for a seven-month run at Andalusia Farm. “Covering Flannery: Book Design and Visual Narrative” will be on view from February 5 through Sept. 3 at the farm on U.S. 441, four miles north of downtown Milledgeville. The exhibition features studies for new covers for O’Connor’s most well-known volumes of fiction. The work offers visitors a glimpse of the ways in which artwork becomes marketable book covers through collaboration between artist and graphic designer along with the third collaborator — the stories. “Covering Flannery” will be launched Sunday, Feb. 5 with a public program featuring the award-winning collaborators. The public is invited to attend the presentations each Sunday in February from 3-5 p.m. at the farm on U.S. 441, four miles north of downtown Milledgeville. The presentations will last from 3-4 p.m., followed by receptions, 4-5 p.m. Space is limited to 25 on a first-come first-served basis. Ample parking is available.
Theater presents southern comedy
DALTON, Ga. — A giant pecan stolen, a minister on the make, aliens, a prom queen on the verge of a breakdown, beauty parlor gossip and a shotgun wedding: just your average day in 1980s small-town Texas, the setting for the Dalton Little Theatre’s latest production, “Home of the Great Pecan.” The two-act comedy runs the first three weekends of February. Production dates are Friday and Saturday and Feb. 10-11 and 17-18 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. This play is rated PG. Egg candling class offered
VALDOSTA, Ga. — Lowndes County Extension and the Georgia Department of Agriculture will offer an egg candling class Feb. 22. From 10 a.m. to noon., participants will be in a classroom setting learning about egg candling and will be tested at the end of the lecture with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m. The candling exercise will take place from 1-3 p.m. People who successfully complete the course will receive a certificate from the Department of Agriculture that will allow for the selling of shell eggs places other than a farm, said Joshua Dawson of the Lowndes County Extension Office.
