MOULTRIE, Ga. — Jessica Brumfield, D.O., a resident of the Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program, was recently appointed to the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors (GAFP).
GAFP is a family physician association that promotes patient-centered care throughout Georgia. Brumfield will serve as the alternate resident board director for 2017, transitioning into the role of resident director in 2018.
“On behalf of Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Program, I offer my sincere congratulations to Dr. Brumfield on her appointment to the GAFP Board,” said Georgia South Family Medicine Program Director Dr. Kirby Smith. “Dr. Brumfield epitomizes the dedication and professionalism of family medicine. She is an exemplary resident, and her board appointment will allow her to contribute her experience and passion for family medicine practice in rural and undeserved areas.”
Brumfield, a native of Louisiana, is a member of the inaugural class of Georgia South Residents. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Xaiver University of Louisiana, a Master of Arts Degree in Biological Science from Drexel University and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine Degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.
“I am honored to be appointed to the GAFP Board,” said Brumfield. “This will be a great opportunity for me to serve as a voice for fellow residents and to provide representation at meetings throughout the state. I’m from a small rural town and I relate to the patients that I have cared for in Southwest Georgia.”
The Georgia South Residency Program welcomed the first class of residents in July of 2016. In December, the Georgia South Family Medicine Residency Center opened and began seeing patients at their 6 Hospital Park location.
“We are a new program and to have a member of our first class of residents selected to serve on this state-wide board says a lot about the quality of our program and our residents,” said Colquitt Regional President & CEO Jim Matney. “We are certainly proud of Dr. Brumfield’s achievements and look forward to seeing to her contributions to practice, policy and education throughout her career.”
