TIFTON — ESG Operations reported two sewage spills in Tifton this week.
The first spill was at the Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 80 Old Brookfield Road. The spill began in the early morning hours Sunday and was contained by midnight on Monday.
According to a representative from ESG, the spill was caused by excess rain over the weekend. The spill comprised 9,500 gallons, some of which entered the New River.
The spill was mitigated using hydrated lime.
The second spill occurred at the manhole located at 720 Tifton-Eldorado Road Monday beginning at approximately 3 p.m.
This spill was caused by a power surge which tripped the pump in the lift station at that location.
8,000 gallons of sewage was spilled with some of it entering Gum Creek, and this spill was mitigated using hydrated lime as well.
