LIVE OAK — The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office charged Brenda and Marc Marshall with aggravated child abuse Saturday, according to a police report.
Marc told police that he got home from work around 7 p.m. on Friday. His wife told Marc that his child was being punished for urinating and defecating on the floor, the report states.
The wife, not the child’s biological mother, allegedly forced the minor to sleep outside in the backyard overnight without any clothes on a section of concrete pavers near the back door.
Neither of the defendants provided the child with any form of shelter or means of staying warm, the report states.
Marc told police he made no attempt to check on his child, according to the report. The next day at 8:40 a.m, he also did not know where the child was until deputies arrived at his home near Stagecoach Road.
A passerby found the minor over a mile away naked and walking in the roadway around 7:44 a.m., the report states.
When police picked up the child, they noticed cuts and bruises on the child’s feet. The child appeared to be exhausted and frightened, according to the report.
The child expressed hunger and thirst to police on multiple occasions. The report also states that the low temperature of the night was 65 degrees, according to Weather.com.
