DALTON, Ga. — Dalton Public Schools officials say a substitute teacher will no longer work in the system after students at Dalton Middle School reported what appeared to be the sounds of a pornographic video coming from his computer.

Principal Phil Jones said the incident happened on Thursday.

“My sixth-grade assistant principal came to me about 1:08 in the afternoon and said she’d had a report from a teacher that we had a substitute who was watching pornography on his computer,” Jones said.

He said he found the teacher who had made the report.

“She said she’d had a few students who’d told her what happened. I went back to the office and met with the three students whose names she’d given me. By the time I’d finished, I interviewed 13 students,” he said.

Jones said none of the students reported actually seeing the man watching a pornographic video or seeing any explicit images.

“The common thread was from his computer what sounded like a pornographic movie going on. He was not at his computer while it was making those sounds. He was in front of the class, and he went back to the computer and turned it off,” Jones said.

Jones said some of the students said that other students had recorded the man on their phones but he talked to those students and asked to see their phones and found nothing that confirmed anyone had recorded the man.

“I immediately called human resources and canceled all of his future sub jobs. He will not be working for the district anymore,” Jones said.

Dalton Public Schools spokeswoman Pat Holloway said the incident was not reported to police because no one actually saw the man watching any pornographic videos and because it was his own computer.

Holloway said the man had worked for the school system since 2015 and there were no prior complaints.

Jones said he could not provide the man’s name.
