MOULTRIE, Ga. — Colquitt County public safety agencies are warning residents to be prepared for potential severe weather that might include high winds, hail, torrential downpours and possible tornadoes on Saturday afternoon and into Sunday morning.
Weather forecasts call for up to 2 to 5 inches of rainfall over the weekend.
The county asks residents to keep up with local conditions, including any watches and warnings issued by weather agencies.
High winds can blow trees into roadways and drivers may not see them in the dark. Swollen streams and gullies also can rise significantly. Drivers should never drive through standing water as it could be deeper than anticipated or the roadway underneath could be washed away, increasing the depth of water.
Drivers also should stay off the roadways during severe weather as much as possible to avoid dangerous conditions.
The county asks anyone who observes flooding over roads, downed trees or other hazardous road conditions to call its Roads & Bridges Department at (229) 616-7480.
Colquitt County Emergency Management and law enforcement will monitor the situation closely,
