Union Missionary Baptist to celebrate usher anniversary

MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Union Missionary Baptist Church Family and its pastor, the Rev. Freddy Williams, invite the public to fellowship with them in celebration of the Senior Usher Board’s 94th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22.
The guest speaker will be the Rev. William Clay Morgan, pastor of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Valdosta, Ga.
Morgan received his early education at Lowndes County’s P. G. Williams Elementary and West Side High School and graduated from Brooklyn’s Boy’s High School, New York, in 1971. Following high school he joined the United States Army as a member of the Medical Corps. He was employed and retired from the United States Postal Service after 32 years of service.
After his honorable discharge from the Army, he enrolled at Valdosta State College (now Valdosta State University), graduating in 1985 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Speech Communication and in 1989 with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.
He was licensed and ordained under the leadership of the late Pastor Otis Columbus Pitts on September 12, 1991, after serving the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church for seven years (August 1984 – September 1991) as a deacon. On Nov. 19, 1993, he was called to the pastorate at the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Valdosta, where he continues to serve. He enrolled and graduated (June 2002) from the Bethany Bible College and Theological Seminary of Dothan, Ala., with a Doctorate of Theological Studies Degree. In December 2012, he graduated from Andersonville Seminary in Camilla, Ga., with a Doctorate of Ministry Degree (Pastoral Leadership).
In addition to his charge as pastor of the Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Morgan has served as chairman of the Eastern Division Union for four years and moderator of the South Georgia Missionary Baptist Association for three years. He served eight years (2005-2012) as secretary of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of Georgia, Inc. and is also an instructor at the Genesis Bible Institute of Valdosta, Ga., and the instructor of a monthly Ministers Class and a monthly Deacons Class. He has also served as a volunteer chaplain at South Georgia Medical Center.
He and his wife of 41 years, Altamese Hunter Morgan (of the Bronx, N.Y.), have reared to adulthood eight children.
The Usher Board Officers are: President Hattie Lou Holton, serving in this capacity since 1994; Vice President Eria Wiley; Secretary Doris Holton; Assistant Secretary Naomi Bridges; Treasurer Christine Smith; and members include Karen Ennis, John L. Smith and Udella Spicer.
