MAYO — Superintendent Robby Edwards is looking forward to his second term. He was elected in 2012 as Superintendent of Schools.
Edwards said he sought election because he loves his job.
“Providing opportunities for success through education is an extremely satisfying line of work that I am glad to be a part of,” Edwards said.
Edwards said he has several goals for his upcoming term but one goal is to have the graduation rate above 95 percent.
“Two years ago our graduation rate had risen to 87 percent, Edwards said. “This past year we were at 93 percent.”
He added Lafayette County is currently 13 percentage points above the state average and ranked third in the state for graduation.
Another goal Edwards has is to grow the Career and Technical Education (CTE) course offerings.
“We continue to support the CTE courses already in place while searching for additional courses that allow our students to graduate with skills needed to be successful in the work place,” Edwards said.
For his upcoming term, Edwards said he is excited about finding ways that the schools can improve.
“Each day there is something new to be learned, a more efficient way of operating, and an opportunity to overcome challenges,” Edwards said.
Edwards said the best part of servings as superintendent is knowing he and the school system have the ability to make a positive impact on students.
“The students in our schools today will one day be leaders, some in our own community,” Edwards said. “I like to see people succeed and we are doing this on a daily basis through two great schools.”
