MOULTRIE, Ga. — Leadership Colquitt County will continue this week to help support Albany residents who are recovering from the storm that hit the region recently.

“Last week local  community partners donated water, Gatorade, snacks and paper goods that we delivered to the Salvation Army on Friday,” a press release from the group said. “Thank you to everyone who helped.”

The shelter at the Albany Civic Center closed this weekend, the press release said, and many of the displaced are shifting to the Salvation Army location. They provide shelter plus two meals a day to those affected by the storm.

The biggest current need are personal items, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, soap, lotion, shampoo, wash cloths, towels, pillows and blankets, Leadership Colquitt County said.

Items can be dropped off at the Moultrie-Colquitt County Chamber of Commerce 8 a.m.-5 p.m. today and Thursday and 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Friday. Donations will be delivered on Friday.

Leadership Colquitt County also noted that Colquitt EMC helped restore electricity in   the Albany area, and  the Colquitt County Board of Commissioners sent crews to assist with debris removal.

A city utility crew has been working in Albany for two weeks, Moultrie City Manager Peter Dillard mentioned in Tuesday’s City Council meeting, and the Moultrie Police Department is also transporting supplies there.
