NASHVILLE — Floats and marching bands from around South Georgia took part in the Martin Luther King Jr. birthday celebration parade.
Portions of South Davis Street were blocked by police as parade participants made their way north through the city. The civil rights icon was born Jan. 15, 1929, in Atlanta. The federal holiday honoring King was first observed in 1986, and is officially held on the third Monday of January.
