THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Furry, flighty foes have infiltrated the MacIntyre Park Middle School and Scholars Academy campus.

An alert was sent informing parents of a bat problem on the campus.

According to the alert, a string of bat encounters has occurred since the fall, despite eradication attempts.

Beginning Thursday morning, students were relocated to different areas of MPMS or Thomasville High School, according to Thomasville City Superintendent Sabrina Boykins-Everett.

Three live bats were spotted in the breezeway at 7:15 a.m. on Thursday. Dead bats also have been found.

Ten classrooms are set to relocate, which involves moving computers in some classrooms, Boykins-Everett added.

Along with classroom relocation, a plan of action regarding bat eradication is being implemented.

The plan includes:

• Air purification study in areas suspected of dead bats

• Intensive investigation of above ceiling in the old, north building of MPMS

• Review of previous eradication efforts

• Consultation with school system’s pest control contractor

With an intensive plan of action and classroom relocation, Boykins-Everett added the situation has not reached the level of shutting down the campus, as of Thursday morning.

“We want parents to know that we are addressing the problem,” Boykins-Everett said.
