MOULTRIE, Ga. — A hunting trip turned tragic for a Moultrie family just before the new year.
Grace McCook Hancock, 51, died of an accidental gunshot wound Friday, Dec. 30, Webster County Coroner Steven Hubbard said on Tuesday.
Hubbard said Hancock was sitting on a sofa in a hunting cabin in Webster County. A relative was working on a .30-06 rifle behind her when the gun discharged.
No one else was injured.
Hubbard said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation investigated the incident but ruled it an accidental shooting. No charges have been filed.
He declined to identify the relative who was working on the gun.
“It’s an unfortunate situation,” he said.
Hancock’s funeral is scheduled for Thursday at Cobb Funeral Chapel.
