THOMASVILLE, Ga. — Despite Monday being the last day for winter break, class was back in session for city school teachers. However, instead of a classroom full of children, the teachers were the students.

A technology fair was held at Harper Elementary early Monday morning, with teachers from all three city elementary schools in attendance.

The goal of the fair was to provide teachers with different ways to use technology in the classroom.

“We’re providing another arrow for teachers’ instructional quiver,” Melvin Hugans, Harper principal, said. “That’s what technology is — an arrow for a teacher’s instructional quiver.”

Jerger Principal Lawana Rayburn said the fair allowed for each teacher to express an individual strength in the education field.

Scott Principal Brian Beaty taught a session on different iPad applications to employ into the classroom.

Beaty said the goal of the session was to learn how to engage students in the classroom through the use of technology.

Other session subjects included creating a classroom through Google apps, interactive notebooks, and a session on how to use the city school system’s new audio and visual system.

The technology fair was the first for the city teachers, and was brought to life by the three elementary principals.

Hugans added the fair is an opportunity to share knowledge and equip teachers with technology tools. Talks of hosting the fair next year at Jerger or Scott are being discussed, Hugans said.
