MOULTRIE, Ga. — A driver involved in an Aug. 25 traffic fatality on a Colquitt County road has been charged with vehicular homicide.
Following a Georgia State Patrol investigation, an arrest warrant was issued this week for Charles Melvin Reed, 55, 5031 U.S. Hwy. 82, Sumner.
He is accused of the accidental killing of 56-year-old James Harrell, also of Sumner, during the crash at the intersection of Ellenton-Omega and Crosland-Lenox Roads. Harrell was a passenger in Reed’s 2000 Trail Blazer.
Reed, who was driving west on Crosland-Lenox Road, told police that he did not see the stop sign because he was looking away from the roadway to talk with Harrell, according to the GSP.
The Trail Blazer collided with a 2016 GMC Canyon driven by David Suggs, 44, of Leesburg, and both cars overturned, GSP reports said.
